Get the word out about our 5K
Spread the word out about teenaged human trafficking and our SuperHero for Freedom 5K!
Will you ask your church to post the following on their website or bulletin? Can you also share it on Facebook or via email?
“Are you a SuperHero for Freedom? Fight teenaged human trafficking in Houston! Join Free the Captives as we raise awareness about trafficking through our 2nd Annual Freedom Fest and 5K on April 9, 2016 at Mason Park, 541 S. 75th St., Houston, TX. Dress as your favorite superhero and walk or run in our 5K or kids’ 1K! Get your friends involved by creating a 5K team. There will be free food, games, a costume contest and music afterwards. Register today at www.freethecaptiveshouston.com.”
Every year, Free the Captives holds a major festival and 5K at Mason Park in the East End to specifically raise awareness about trafficking to this community. Recently a trafficker was given a life sentence in prison for selling women and girls to over 64,000 men in 19 months in an East End brothel. This brothel is less than 3 miles from Mason Park; thus educating this community about trafficking is vital.

121 “Johns” Arrested in Houston
An astounding number of men were arrested in Houston during the weeks surrounding the Super Bowl in an undercover operation by local law enforcement. 121 Johns were arrested in efforts to curb the demand for trafficking.
Human trafficking occurs because there is a demand. As long as men want to buy women and girls, traffickers will continue to prey upon young vulnerable teenagers. Read more about the arrests in the Houston Chronicle here.
Ways to Get Involved
- PRAY. Pray, pray, pray. We need you to PRAY for us and our teen trafficking survivors. We post our prayer requests on Facebook, so like us!
- DONATE A BUILDING. We need a permanent space for our candle making business for our trafficked teens. Jobs play a major role in their restoration. We are looking for donated property (warehouse, home, church property) with 2500 to 3500 square feet that has access to the bus and is within the 610 Loop or nearby. Email info@freethecaptiveshouston.com if you can help.
- VOLUNTEER. There are many ways to volunteer, but our biggest need right now is manpower for our Freedom Fest & 5K. On February 27, we need your help with our Latino Human Trafficking Outreach event in the East End. Sign up today!
- SUMMER INTERNSHIP. Apply to be a summer intern with Free the Captives! Fore more details on working with our trafficking victims in our job program and the application process, click here. Email info@freethecaptiveshouston.com for an internship application.
